In my early years at Holy Innocents Anglican School, teacher Lyris was there to hold my hand to teach me to write and made me repeat after her to learn to read. What a loving soul she was as she took care of us in Primer. She enjoyed taking us to play outside especially on Fridays. We played with bean bags and etcetera. We even enjoyed the milk and biscuits she prepared for children who preferred to have that for lunch. I also remember how she would stand at the door after break time to make sure that we drank water before coming into class. Teacher Lyris, I learnt started teaching at 14 in the days of Pupil Teachers. It is anybody guess that she must have taught five generations. Some people she taught even ended up joining the staff while she was still a teacher there. On behalf of my family, I extend condolences to Ian and the rest of her family. May her soul rest in peace. I am glad that Archdeacon managed to visit her before her passing.
